General Surgery is the mother of all surgical specialties. Only a few years ago, General Surgery included all surgical procedures including Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery etc. Nowadays the major field that General Surgery deals with is the abdominal region, including both Emergency and planned surgical procedures. The wide acceptance and use of modern technological equipment has resulted in the limitation of surgical time, intraoperative and postoperative complications and in the optimization of patients' outcome.
